New Year's Eve 2000 turned out to be one of the most memorable nights of my life. "Star Trek: The Experience" in Las Vegas was having a party that no true Star Trek fan could pass up. Not only did we have catered hours'd'vours, open bar, and a gourmet dinner, but we also got a handful of collectable souveniers (ie. an actual communicator pin prop from DS9 in a nice frame, framed & matted Leonard Nimoy autograph, etc.) and a behind the scenes tour of the attraction. All of this, on top of a party taking place on the bridge of the Enterprise was too much to pass up. With my friends all thinking I was crazy to spend $1000 for a ticket to a party (not including air fare or accomodations), I knew I was in for something special.

Arriving in Vegas on the 31st, only a few hours before I had to be ready for dinner, only added to the excitement of the evening. I knew there was going to be an eclectic mix of people at the party, and that I could expect to see some people in black-tie & gowns, and others in Star Fleet uniforms. Of course, this being my first opportunity to be on the bridge, I felt it necessary to play the part. Decked out in my uniform, I went off to party like it's 1999...

Well, it only took me 30 years, but I finally got sit in the big chair!

As the evening's festivities began to wind down, the Klingons began to losen up. Here I am with an uncharacteristically jubulient warrior.

The day after the party, we got a behind the scenes tour of the ride. I learned how all of the special effects worked, got details into the making of the ride, and got one last chance to sit in the Captain's chair.
